Here’s to you.

As I was driving in the rain Tuesday afternoon, this song came on the radio and turning it up, I listened and felt really great.  Remembered how it felt listening to it back in 1969. And how it feels good even though I haven’t had anyone in my life for years. (by choice.) It felt pretty good imagining a very pleasant relationship with nature and the world in general. This song always makes me smile and on a dreary rainy drive, it still brought made me feel really good.

“It’s incredibly touching when someone who seems so hopeless finds a few inches of light to stand in and makes everything work as well as possible. All of us lurch and fall, sit in the dirt, are helped to our feet, keep moving, feel like idiots, lose our balance, gain it, help others get back on their feet, and keep going.” – Ann Lamott

Remember.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die. – Anonymous

“From that time on, the world was hers for the reading. She would never be lonely again, never miss the lack of intimate friends. Books became her friends and there was one for every mood. There was poetry for quiet companionship. There was adventure when she tired of quiet hours. There would be love stories when she came into adolescence and when she wanted to feel a closeness to someone she could read a biography. On that day when she first knew she could read, she made a vow to read one book a day as long as she lived.” – Betty Smith
